Spinning Babies

Spinning Babies is not a circus act! Spinning Babies is about fetal positioning and how we can help them navigate our bodies during pregnancy, labour and birth.

This approach optimizes the physical relationship between the bodies of the mother and baby for the easing of childbirth. Spinning Babies is a new paradigm that takes clues from baby’s position and station for natural, physiological solutions. It is something that all expecting mothers and birth teams should be aware of. Whether you have a head down baby, breech baby, drug free birth, epidural or scheduled induction spinning babies can make a significant impact on the outcome of your birth using balance, gravity and moment.

Mamasaurus is a paramedic/fire fighter, Dona certified birth Doula, Certified Lactation Counsellor, Certified Sleep trainer, Happiest Baby on the Block Educator, Certified Prenatal Educator, Craniosacral Therapist and 1 of only 4 Spinning Babies Parent Educators in all of Canada!

Infant Car Seat Safety

As part of Safe Community Wood Buffalo, Buckle Up Wood Buffalo exists to help families make the safest choices possible for their families while traveling in motor vehicles. Motor vehicle collisions are still the leading cause for child injury and death in Canada for children between the ages of 0-13, so come on out and learn how to keep you and your family safe while on the road.

Lesley Pearcey is the Childhood Injury Prevention Coordinator with Safe Community Wood Buffalo. As a car seat technician for the past 5 years as well as a technician instructor for the past 2 year, child safety has truly become her passion. She is certified with St. John Ambulance as well as the Child Passenger Safety Association of Canada.

The Emotional Rollercoaster of Parenthood

Excitement, terror, a little throwing up and some crazy pictures. Not only is pregnancy and parenthood a lot like an amusement park roller coaster, it’s one that doesn’t seem to slow down. Learn about what the normal ups and downs can look like, how to care for yourself and your growing family during the first year, and signs and symptoms to watch out for. Great information for moms, dads and support people!

Melissa is the perinatal support coordinator at the Hub Family Resource Centre. In addition to running the Hub’s prenatal classes, she facilitates the weekly Moms Matter support group, relationship and parenting classes, and lots of fun, supportive activities for parents and babies to enjoy together.

Join Maddie to learn about the fundamentals of breastfeeding. Learn what changes to expect while pregnant, and how to get off to the best start breastfeeding your newborn. Breastfeeding is like a dance. Mom and baby must move together and figure out their own unique rhythm, and knowledge and support will help make it all go much more smoothly!

Maddie Amyotte is a Registered Nurse and Lactation Counsellor who has recently written the exam to become an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant. She has 7 years of nursing experience ranging from labour and delivery to neonatal and pediatric intensive care at the Stollery Children’s Hospital.  Her love for supporting families has led her to her newest gig as the Mama Coach in Fort McMurray. She is passionate about all things breastfeeding and loves supporting moms through this challenging yet rewarding journey.

Let’s Talk about Pregnancy and Alcohol

We know that 61% of pregnancies are unplanned and more than 80% of women of child bearing age drink alcohol, resulting in prenatal alcohol exposure. Our core messaging is that No Alcohol is Safest During Pregnancy. We will have a conversation on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), the myths surrounding alcohol and pregnancy, how it happens, why women may drink while they are pregnant and how can we support pregnant women to not drink or drink less during their pregnancy.

Rhonda Robinson is the Prevention Conversation Facilitator with the North East Alberta FASD Network. For the past 2 years she has worked with organizations and families throughout the region to provide information and resources to break down the myths surrounding alcohol and pregnancy and support families to make the best choices possible.

Prenatal Yoga

Join Shelby Marshall, local Prenatal Yoga Teacher, for a 30 minute yoga class designed for the mama-to-be! This class will help strengthen and create space in your body, and increase circulation using postures that are safe and supportive for both you and baby! We will use mindful movement and connect with our breath, with a guided relaxation at the end. This class is open to all levels. Come ready to move, breathe, and connect with other mamas in the community!

Shelby Marshall has been teaching adult, pre/postnatal, teens, and kids yoga in Fort McMurray for the past 4 years. She believes in guiding safe, mindful movement that encourages us to reconnect to our bodies and using the breath to help us stay aware and present throughout our experiences on and off the mat.
