ANGELA WOOD Board Member
How long have you been on the board and what unique skill set do you bring?
I have been a member of the board since April 2024. Though I am newly appointed to the board, I am committed to harmonizing my objectives with those of the Hub in fostering an inclusive and secure environment that embraces all families. With 23 years of experience in education, including twelve years as a Vice Principal, five years serving as an Indigenous coordinator, and my most recent role as a Reconciliation Advisor, I bring a variety of expertise to the table. My engagement with the twelve Indigenous communities within the region has equipped me with an understanding of their distinct cultures, histories, and languages.
What made you want to become involved with the Hub?
I became involved with the Hub because I share their goals and values, appreciating their dedication to enhancing our community's well-being. As a young mother, I frequently brought my children to the Hub for various activities, to gain insights into parenting, and to connect with other parents. Our close-knit "mommy group" found solace and comradery in its safe and nurturing environment. Now, serving as a board member, I am committed to sustaining the Hub's programs and their positive impact on our community.
How long have you resided in Fort McMurray and can you tell me your favourite thing about the community?
I have been a proud resident of Fort McMurray for sixteen years. What I love most about Fort McMurray is the feeling of “home” and the deep community support. We have a thriving community because of the kind, giving, caring, and supportive community we live in. I am very grateful for the sense of safety and family that Fort McMurray provides to us in all facets.
When not volunteering your time, what can we find you doing?
As a mother of two you can likely find me at the hockey rink, or the soccer field. We are an active family that enjoys spending time outdoors and travelling, particularly to the East Coast or to the mountains. We love spending time in the Birchwood trails, at local parks, and on the Snye. Participating in the many events that are held frequently in our region, learning about new cultures, building relationships, and how I can give back to our community is something I always strive to do. On warmer days, you can find me riding around on my Harley with my friends!
What is your aspiration for the Hub and our community?
I hope that the Hub continues to host successful programming and provides a safe and nurturing environment as it did for my children and me. I aspire for it to grow and develop and to be a continued place for families to gather, share, and build friendships and a sense of community.
